My name’s Meg.

I’m a Vermont-based freelance journalist, writer and editor reporting on education, municipal government, rural issues, the arts and more in New England and beyond.

As a former staffer at The Keene Sentinel in New Hampshire and The Lowell Sun in Massachusetts, local news is my first love, but I’m also passionate about solutions journalism, news literacy and creating a more collaborative journalism industry.

After graduating from the University of Denver with a degree in journalism, English and French, I spent a year teaching English in the French Alps, where I worked with elementary-aged students in three rural villages. The experience sparked my interest in writing about education, especially issues of equity and inclusion.

I regularly write for the State House News Service in Massachusetts, as well as the Granite State News Collaborative, a collective of media outlets, nonprofits and education organizations across New Hampshire. My byline has appeared in a host of publications, including Input, New England Public Media, The Concord Monitor, The Daily Yonder, Seven Days, NBC Boston and WBUR, among others.

Through my business, McIntyre Editorial Services, I also offer developmental editing, line editing and copy editing for self-published and querying authors, as well as copy editing and content writing for businesses and organizations.

When I’m not reporting, I love trying new recipes, reading murder mysteries and playing with my Calico rescue, Penny. I also created my own radio show and podcast, The Vermont Ver-Mystery Hour, which is currently on hiatus. You can find out more about the show here.
